In the past few years, we have the growing sales numbers of the full- and mid-size SUV segments. Both the German and Japanese car giants have been developing and releasing different models in these segments. Opel won’t like to get left behind and will soon follow this trend, as can be seen in its R&D pipeline. Except for the Mokka X, the German carmaker doesn’t have too many Crossovers in its lineup. Things are about to change as the carmaker is set to build an SUV under the Insignia model. We are anticipating this new 2018 Opel Insignia SUV to roll out by 2018.
2018 Opel Insignia SUV – Exterior Expectations and Luxurious Interior Design
Although there are still no final design details about the upcoming crossover, we know for sure that the sedan will be the basis. It would be using General Motor’s C1XX modular platform. This is the same platform to be used for the future crossover units to be developed by the company.
Since this SUV will be sold in both the UK and Australian market, it is just logical to use this platform. The C1XX enables the flexibility of using either the left- or right-handed steering configuration. Depending on where it would be sold, the Insignia would be marketed both as Holden and Ope model.
We expect the 2018 Opel Insignia SUV to get that characteristic curvature on its exterior. The design idiom and materials continue inside the cabin. It would also be larger than its predecessor especially that Opel has already started testing an Insignia sedan.
From the outset, the design may have a coupe-like and sloping profile – making it more stylish and modern. Although the SUV may have grown in size, Opel is trying to keep its weight to the minimum. The Opel Insignia SUV will have a sturdy body as it will be using the E2XX platform – the one used for the Chevrolet Malibu and made of high-strength steel materials.
Other interesting features that we expect with the 2018 Opel Insignia include the IntelliLink infotainment system, Matrix LED headlights, and Smartphone connectivity. Opel has fitted this crossover SUV with the latest technological features, allowing it to compete with other SUVs in the market.
2018 Opel Insignia SUV – Powerful Engine and Performance
There has been no official word about the powertrain of the Opel Insignia 2018. However, as per rumors, the crossover will be offering an All-Wheel Drive and Front-Wheel Drive option. There will be optional gasoline and diesel engines, as well as the possibility of a hybrid version in the future.
2018 Opel Insignia SUV – Release Date and How Much will Cost?
Opel is still silent about when this new 2018 Opel Insignia SUV would be rolling out but we’re expecting it to be featured at the 2016 Paris Auto Show during the latter part of the year. If rumors are to be believed, the 2018 Insignia hatchback model should be introduced much earlier than the SUV.
The upcoming 2018 Opel Insignia SUV would have the likes of Ford Edge as its main competitor. There is still no official word about the SUV’s price.
