The Japanese automaker has finally unveiled its latest addition to its crossover lineup – the 2018 Mitsubishi Expander Crossover MPV. It would seem that this 7-seater is finally out of the concept phase and ready to enter serial production.
According to Mitsubishi, the upcoming Expander is designed as a combination of an MPV and an SUV. It aims to combine the features of both while offering plenty of durability and performance.
2018 Mitsubishi Expander Crossover MPV – Exterior look and Design
As we already know, the 2018 Mitsubishi Expander Crossover MPV will remain faithful to the design of the original concept. Therefore, we should expect a fairly sleek, futuristic-looking vehicle, albeit with strong SUV lines and that well-known rugged feel.
In the front, this MPV will sport the famous Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic shield design. This design will distinguish the Expander by incorporating a large and muscular two-piece grille, sleek and athletic headlights, and massive daytime running lights.
On the sides, it seems the Expander’s looks have been inspired by the Montero Sport’s looks, which have been expertly applied to a classic crossover design. Here, the most dominating features will include flared wheel arches, sharp creases, and flowing lines. These will give the Expander a more aggressive appearance and a sporty edge.
In the back, we can see L-shaped taillights, which flank the rear panels, and a massive tailgate. Finally, the rear bumper blends nicely with the tailgate and sports a rear diffuser.
Interior Styling and Features
On the outside, the 2018 Mitsubishi Expander Crossover MPV may look sporty and luxurious, but inside, it is a different story.
The Expander’s interior is all about practicality, ruggedness and available space. Upon inspection, we can see all the hallmarks of a highly affordable and reliable people mover.
There will be no opulence, no exotic materials or futuristic tech. Instead, there will be plenty of simple lines, sturdy plastic, cloth trims and all the necessary tech. There will also be some faux wood and metal trim too.
Overall, the Expander’s cabin will sport a fairly minimalist and light design. It will feature lots of physical dials and durable knobs, as well as a simple yet modern dashboard. However, there will still be some advanced tech, in the form of a touchscreen infotainment system and modern safety systems.
Of course, given that this is a 7-seater, we should expect plenty of passenger and cargo space. Mitsubishi is also claiming that the comfort will be ensured, thanks to high-quality, adjustable seats.
Engine and Transmission Details of the 2018 Mitsubishi Expander Crossover MPV
So far, there has been only one engine variant confirmed for the upcoming 2018 Mitsubishi Expander Crossover MPV. This is going to be a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine. Unfortunately, we still don’t have any concrete information regarding the engine’s performance numbers.
However, it is expected to provide a fairly decent performance, along with a good fuel efficiency. What we do know is that it will come paired with either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission and a front-wheel drive.
Expected Release Date and Price
The latest 2018 Mitsubishi Expander Crossover MPV will most likely hit the global markets in late 2017, or early 2018. At the moment, there is still no news regarding its price.
