The leaked document from the NHTSA indicating that the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Turbo will be released soon. We recently got a glimpse of the fan renderings along with the test mule which appeared nearly undisguised. It gave us a clear peek into the interior.
The new generation Wrangler, popularly known as JL, is likely to start production in the next couple of weeks. However, it might not be available at authorized dealerships until sometime next year. The leaked document, courtesy of JLWranglerForums, suggests that the overhauled Wrangler will feature the existing 285-hp 3.6-liter V6 powertrain as standard. Additionally, the engines will get hooked to an all-new 8-speed automatic gearbox to enhance fuel economy.
2018 Jeep Wrangler Turbo – Trim Levels and Design
In addition to the engine specifications, the FCA’s internal dealer system information exposed a lot of other striking nuggets of good news. For instance, the document claims that the Sahara trim level will be exclusive to the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited and comes furnished with a new full-time AWD system. Furthermore, both two-and four-door variants are slated to receive Sport and Rubicon trim levels. Both trims allegedly come equipped with Jeep’s standard part-time FWD system.
Like the ongoing Wrangler, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Turbo comes with a canvas as well as a detachable top. We also believe the inbound edition is poised to include a power soft-top option. Almost a dozen option packages are likely to become available as well. The basic equipment that will likely to constitute the packages will include the Smoker’s Group, LED Lighting Package and the Dual Top Group.
2018 Jeep Wrangler Turbo – Engine Specs and Transmission
When this SUV goes on sale sometime next year, it will offer a couple of engine choices. The redesigned 2018 Jeep Wrangler Turbo will supply a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 as its first option. The second one is 3.6-liter V-6 that comes with a 285 HP.
If this post is anything to go by, the turbocharged Jeep Wrangler will produce a whopping 368 horsepower. For that reason, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Turbo will become as powerful as the likes of the turbocharged Mercedes-AMG GLA45.
You might also be pleased to know that the 6-speed manual transmission survives, but we’ve got no idea which engine it will pair. We believe the former unit serves in gasoline-powered Wrangler versions while the latter is exclusive to the diesel variant.
Development and Expectations of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Turbo
We tried to reach out to the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles for a comment, but we noted that the spokesperson was unwilling to say something regarding the Jeep Wrangler Turbo. But from some rumors, the new model is likely to make the appearance in December at the LA Auto Show.
