Even though we still have no full information regarding the upcoming SUV from the German giant, what we do know is that the 2018 BMW X5 gets new diesel engines and a new design. Despite being at the top of the SUV segment, the BMW continues to upgrade and evolve its current models. It does so with the aim of offering something new to its trusted customers and outpacing the competition.
However, there is still a rumor that the X5 will have a somewhat shorter life cycle, which will certainly impact BMW’s sales to a certain degree. To counter that, the Germans plan to speed up the introduction of new models and updates.
2018 BMW X5 – More Durable and Rigid
The upcoming 2018 BMW X5 will come with the latest CLAR ( Cluster Architecture) modular platform. This platform is also used on the current 7-Series and 5-Series models and is planned to find its way onto other BMW models. It will make X5 around 500lbs to 650lbs lighter and more durable and rigid, as well as flexible. When it comes to the overall exterior aesthetics, the X5 will get a mild facelift, not a complete makeover.
It will get a more pronounced front end, with a set of larger kidney grilles, and slightly redesigned headlights. On the sides, it will feature a body line similar to the current model. In the back, there is a bland fascia, which will surely get new styling touches and cues during production.
Interior Look and Styling
We should expect the new cabin to be more luxurious and comfortable and come with a number of advanced tech gadgets and systems. We also expect more soft leather, with much better padding, and a more visually appealing cabin. Rumors point out that there will be a redesigned instrument cluster layout in the front. Also, there is slightly redesigned dashboard and plenty of logically placed controls.
The infotainment system of the 2018 BMW X5 will probably feature a thinner and larger touchscreen display. Of course, there are going to be a plethora of high-tech safety systems and driver-assistance measures too.
Under the Hood of the 2018 BMW X5
As we’ve already mentioned, the 2018 BMW X5 will get a number of new diesel engines. The X5 will be able to use a variety of plug-in hybrid engines, some of which are currently used in the latest 530e. As far as the diesel engines are concerned, we will see a wide variety of new 4, 6, and 8-cylinder powertrains. Of course, there are also going to be gasoline variants, like the ones found in the 5-Series models.
Release Date and Price
The German giant will launch its upcoming 2018 BMW X5 sometime in 2018. At the moment, we still don’t have any info surrounding the X5’s price. Some of the competitors will be Audi Q5, Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
